Kuwait Towers
The
Kuwait Towers is situated in the Sharq area
on the Arabian Gulf. It is one of Kuwait’s
main attractions among visitors.
Designed by a company from Sweden, the
Kuwait Towers was built by a company from
Yugoslav. Construction on the towers began
in 1975 and they were opened to the public
in 1979. 50 thousand plates made of steel
from China painted in 8 different hues cover
the balls.
The Kuwait Towers are considered a cultural
icon in the country, proof of how a
comparatively small country can accomplish
great things. The towers stand out among
other great architectural accomplishments in
the Middle East or even anywhere in the
world. Although there are three towers
and
three spheres, they are not all used for
storing things.
Over a hundred meters in height, the first
tower holds up a sphere that holds water.
The 2nd tower is even taller, almost 200
meters in height. This one carries a
cafeteria and restaurant. The third one has
no spheres since its purpose is for
lighting. All 3 towers store about four
thousand five hundred cubic meters of water
that then flow into the residential and
commercial sectors of the city of Kuwait
city. The excellence of the design rests on
the fact that it is both very contemporary
as well as unmistakably Arabic.
